BEWARE OF PHISHING EMAILS!
Recently the Australian Taxation Office published a press release about an email scam [http://www.ato.gov.au/corporate/content.asp?doc=/content/00198056.htm] otherwise known within the IT industry as phishing. Now that we are in the Tax Time 2009 period (1st July to 30th October 2009), Australian taxpayers should remain vigilant about these types of emails.
As a first line of defense, users who have a genuine copy of Windows Vista with SP2 or Windows Server 2008 R2 should upgrade to Internet Explorer 8.0 to take advantage of the in-built phishing filter. To learn more about the IE8 phishing filter (SmartScreen), please visit [https://phishingfilter.microsoft.com/faq.aspx].
